The challenge

JSS Public Sector & Not-for-profit were selected to partner with Milton Keynes University Hospital (MKUH) to deliver a multiple-vacancy campaign across their Finance Department following a restructure of the whole function to better meet the needs of today and the future.

The new structure resulted in eight vacancies (up to ‘Head of’ / NHS Band 8d level) across Income and Contracting, Capital, Costing, Financial Control and Financial Management. As such, MKUH required a specialist recruitment partner with significant knowledge of, and network within, the NHS Finance market who could be trusted to deliver a complex and critical recruitment campaign at pace.

The solution

JSS worked closely with MKUH while the new structure was agreed upon to ensure they had a comprehensive understanding of the proposed changes and how they would better serve the Department, Trust and the public moving forward.

An efficient recruitment timeline to advertise, shortlist and interview candidates was put in place with an emphasis on priority roles where necessary.

As with any multi-vacancy recruitment campaign, it is essential that correct messaging is communicated to the market around why a volume of roles have become available and that a sense of confidence and excitement surrounding the opportunity is created for when candidates apply.

This was done by creating a bespoke recruitment microsite for MKUH, including a welcome letter from MKUH Director of Finance Terry Whittle, background on the recent changes to the structure, and how they support achieving the exciting strategic vision for the organisation. Each available position was listed with a complete job description, including details on how to apply.

The impact

Through the use of JSS’ professional networks, Linkedin, job boards, and complimented by the existing reputation of MKUH and their Finance Department, JSS were able to identify and present suitable shortlists for all roles within the agreed timeframe and all roles were filled within the first round of recruitment.

Given the volume, breadth and, in some instances, a highly limited pool of candidates from a geographical and/or experience perspective, JSS were able to add significant value to the process and save the Trust valuable time in ensuring an efficient and seamless volume recruitment campaign was delivered.

“We partnered with JSS for support in a multi-vacancy finance campaign following a team restructure. It was important to us that we worked with a credible partner with a proven track record. JSS delivered a high-calibre and diverse candidate field, enabling us to make appointments to all positions.” – Terry Whittle (CFO)
