Benchmarking & Salary Guide

Our benchmarking service allows our clients to gain a unique insight into the reward and remuneration for specific roles in their organisation.

JSS is an established specialist recruitment consultancy that brings together extensive experience in recruiting professional services roles across private, public and not-for-profit sectors. We work with a wide range of clients from blue-chip brands and multinationals to high growth start-ups, both in the UK and internationally, giving us a unique perspective on the changing face of the labour market.

Our benchmarking service has been created due to significant demand from our customers – it is designed to offer real-time data that can be practically applied, reducing attrition rates and increasing your success in hiring.

    Why JSS?

Many other benchmarking services offer a broad overview of reward levels – making it difficult to draw accurate comparisons. Given the wide variance that exists in many professions relating to the size, sector and unique circumstance of different companies, we can provide a much more specific and applicable benchmarking review.

We know our markets. Every day we work with some of the most recognisable brands in each sector, and our consultants are all specialist experts in their fields, with many years of experience. This service uses up to the minute research and data to evaluate salary levels for comparable roles and organisations in your sector, ensuring that you are offering appropriate levels of reward and remain competitive. This is an invaluable tool for recruitment and retention of existing staff and maximising performance across your business.

We bring the JSS values and attention to detail to everything we do, so our benchmarking service will be bespoke to your needs and provide unique insight.

    How does it work?

Upon instructing JSS to benchmark your role/s, we will arrange a briefing consultation to understand the role better. This will include speaking to all relevant stakeholders within your organisation to build a complete picture of the position. We will also seek to understand the main objectives of the role, key responsibilities, requirements/experience/qualifications needed and preferred, competencies and values that are required to fulfil the position. We will also explore appropriate benchmarking peer organisations with you to agree on the most relevant comparators for your report.

Once briefing has concluded, we will confirm our understanding in writing and finalise benchmarking peers before commencing our research phase.

Our team of expert researchers will obtain and compile all relevant data for comparable postholders in the peer organisations – the number of peers will also be agreed with you but typically would be c10 directly relevant postholders in peer organisations. We can also prepare data on more comprehensive benefits, including LTIPs or share options if appropriate.

Once the research phase has been completed, our consultancy team will review and prepare initial recommendations based on the data collated. Recommendations are always evidence-based and clearly explain why we have reached our conclusions.

Once review and evaluation has been completed and we have made our recommendations, we prepare a first draft of the report for you to review – this allows you to check the peer data and our conclusions before finalising content.

Our consulting and research team are able to present the report to remuneration committees and governance boards as required. If appropriate, we can arrange for market updates of a benchmarking review on a quarterly, half-yearly or annual basis.

How long does it take to complete a review?

Benchmarking typically takes 4 – 6 weeks, depending on the availability of stakeholders for briefing stages. In certain cases, we are able to compress this timescale where time is of the essence.
