Caterpillar CEO – ‘We have to lead digital. By the summer every machine will be connected.’
Mantrac were looking towards digital and data to drive growth through the company, although CEO Dough Oberhelman admits that some of its customers will need a helping hand in understanding what the benefits are to their business…
Brief 1:
The CEO of Mantrac, one of Caterpillars largest dealers was tasked by Caterpillar in leading this revolution and in turn retained James Fargus to hire a Chief Digital/Data Officer to create a new operating company to deliver current Caterpillar Digital, Data and Analytics capabilities and consulting to their client base.
The brief was to find a Senior Director/Partner from a major Consultancy or Strategy House who has experience in the start-up and roll out of a Digital & Analytics focused consulting practice. After conducting a thorough market search JSS delivered a fully pre-screened shortlist of five candidates. Three were selected for 2nd round interviews and Stephen Warner was offered and accepted the role as the Chief Data Officer.
Brief 2:
Once in situ, Stephen needed to hire an initial three Consulting Directors as Sales Leads to head up their three main sector verticals, a further two to follow Q4 . They were to come from leading technology consulting or SI backgrounds and have exposure to not only Digital and Data Analytics Consulting but also either Utilities, Mining or Oil & Gas industries.
Mantrac retained JSS to focus on UK based Principle/ Director level candidates. This then changed to UK based Senior Manager levels. At the point of shortlist presentation Mantrac’s Auditors declared for tax reasons that the company needed to be based in the UAE. JSS rapidly pivoted and delivered these resources within the next 8 weeks.
Steve’s strategy, build and leadership enabled Mantrac to drive towards their digital vision and achieves their short and medium term goals, enabling significant improvements in productivity, process & performance.
